Warning: This is bloggy blab stuff.
A family member recently asked me what the heck unrev.org's entelechy is/means/represents/stands for/etc.
My response was:
"un" like...
underground, unfinished, unrivaled, undefeated...
"rev" like...
revolution, reversal, revery, reveille, rev (like with an engine)...
The point is, there is not a single meaning, and it is different for everyone. That is why it is wide open to interpretation.
It might be the unfinished revolution for some. It might be the unrivaled revery for another. Or the underground reveille. Part of "the unrev" is that it is personal and unique to everyone, but there is a similar motivating force behind the driver - to move away from the Global Soap Opera, next best thing, mass marketing, fixed news, etc... and towards a place of peace inside of oneself and with one's surroundings. And to make money, as much as you want. Integrated yet independent, we tread as lightly as we can. But...
One of my major quests at this point (which will be addressed at the soon-to-be launched the unrev website) is to actually find out first hand to what degree unrevving is doable. How lightly can we tread? How effectively can we live on the fringe (i.e., not psychically influenced by mass media and its notions of what's good/cool/bad/not cool/etc.) and also be integrated with society?
For me, "entelechy" embraces many things... Wiktionary sums it up nicely in three points:
1. A particular type of motivation, need for self-determination, and inner strength directing life and growth to become all one is capable of being. It is the need to actualize one's beliefs. It is having a personal vision and being able to actualize that vision from within.
2. A conception completely actualized.
3. Something complex that emerges when you put a large number of simple objects together.
"entelechy" is there because I love the fact that one word can mean so much. It also creates an immediate challenge for Web surfers that land on the site: to take an additional step to understand. Those that really want to know will look it up and perhaps enjoy it, perhaps think I'm crazy. That doesn't matter as much as the fact that it is a part of me (and anyone else doing this type of fringe dwelling). It's an (in)ternal (ex)tension of me that I am offering to others to take where they may - or not.
I didn't invent the notions that unrev+entelechy attempts to convey, but I could not find the words to express what I mean in any language I know, so I searched and read and voilĂ : unrev.org's entelechy
So the Web world I weave is unrev.org's entelechy.
If people don't know what it is or means and don't care to, that's cool. It's those intrigued enough to take the additional step that will appreciate it (or not) for what it is: the realtime actualization of the vision residing inside of me, an expression of my inner strength and drive to become all that I am capable of becoming by putting together simple things that form a complex whole.
And let's not forget the .org, which shows that what is being actualized is there for all to access for freely 24/7, even when I am asleep or in the jungle or at sea or... that extension of my work is available anywhere there is an unrestricted Internet connetion.
